The ACPR, in its advisory role to the Executive Secretary, maintains a continuation of the dialogue between the ESCAP Secretariat and member governments. ACPR establishes, with the assistance of the Secretariat, a work plan for the duration of one commission session to the next together with a list of tentative items to be discussed.

ACPR holds five to six meetings each year and its activities are reviewed at the annual sessions of the Commission. Its report is presented to the Commission by a rapporteur appointed on a rotational basis from among the permanent representatives. All necessary secretarial services are rendered by the secretariat for the discharge of the tasks assigned to ACPR by the Commission.

Present ACPR membership includes permanent representatives and liaison officers to ESCAP of members and associate members, and permanent observers and liaison officers of United Nations member countries.
